Our community highlight of the week features Kountry Squire located in Mosinee, WI. The town is quite small, so you may have never heard of it before! It is centrally located between Stevens Point and Wausau, which may be a bit more familiar. The primary source of adventure and fun in the area is by way of the Wisconsin River. Fishing and boating is a common activity that many residents choose to take part in, making the summer months the liveliest time in the area. There are a few notable activities that take place in the town which residents can also take part in during the year. The Log Jam Festival, taking place in August of each year, features live music, tons of food and activities for the whole family. Canoe rides and a horseshoe tournament are two featured events of the festival and brings out the whole town to celebrate. Interested in water sports? The Wisconsin Water Walkers put on their annual Water Ski Shows each year right in Mosinee! They put on several stops a summer and put on fun and family-friendly shows for people of all ages. The community of Kountry Squire is centrally located off of Highway 39, making it convenient for those who would like to take advantage of the surrounding bigger cities. Pets are welcome and the community offers a peaceful, welcoming environment for families of all sizes. A FEW FUN FACTS:
· The town of Mosinee is located in Marathon County and technically resides in the Wausau Metropolitan Area.
· The namesake Mosinee comes from the Ho-Chunk word meaning “Cold Country” but was originally named Little Bull Falls.
· Lumber was the first industry to become popular in the area. Following mass deforestation, paper has replaced it as the most important industry to the area.
· Until 1974, the local library of the area was notable historic landmark, the Joseph Dessert Library.
